The Role:  The team fuses data streams from athlete-worn sensors, computer vision of game and practice video, human-conducted game tagging/rating systems (see PFF), and various SQL/NoSQL databases to maintain a comprehensive picture of athlete health and safety.  Your role is to ensure the integrity and efficiency of the team’s data pipelines and databases. Who you are:

  • You have experience building APIs as part of a team building dynamic web applications
  • You deliver standardized, fully tested code in a CI/CD environment
  • You have experience deploying a wide variety of relational (SQL) and non-relational (DynamoDB) databases
  • You have experience building serverless architectures that leverage technologies such as such as CDK, Lambda, API Gateway, Fargate
  • You know how to select and build an optimal data pipeline for the task at hand, balancing speed/efficiency against flexibility as needed (i.e., you understand the fundamentals of data architecture)

Position Details

Biocore has an immediate opening for a part-time or full-time Engineer I  or Engineer II (based on experience) for our Helmets Team. The right individual will support ongoing safety equipment testing and evaluation through design of experiment, design and maintenance of laboratory equipment, hands-on support of lab operations, and analysis of research findings. The position is based out of primary offices in Charlottesville, VA.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Demonstrated experience with laboratory testing, design, and/or test fixture fabrication. Preference given to direct experience with data acquisition system operation.
  • Biomechanics, kinesiology, or related experience a plus.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Collect high-quality test data using a variety of custom and/or industrial systems.
  • Perform data analysis to summarize findings for research project stakeholders.
  • Assist in design of experiments for new research projects.
  • Develop new testing protocols including design of fixtures & equipment, selection of data collection systems, and development of procedures.
  • Maintain testing capacity through inventory, ordering tools/equipment/testing supplies, and performing troubleshooting and repair of mechanical and electronic systems and equipment.
  • Ensure that tools and test equipment are properly maintained and calibrated.

Technical capabilities

  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems, including system design.
  • Ability to read and follow electrical/mechanical schematics to assist in isolating fault to root cause component/assembly.
  • Ability to troubleshoot wiring and complete I/O checks.

Position Details

Biocore has an immediate opening for a full-time Sr. Engineer I, Biomechanics. The right individual will support research and analysis for lower extremity biomechanics, focused on understanding how technique, training, equipment, and surfaces influence injury risk and performance. The position is based at our primary office in Charlottesville, VA.

Position Requirements

Advanced degree in one of the interrelated disciplines of sports biomechanics and/or kinesiology, biomedical engineering, or mechanical engineering including demonstrated experience with biomechanics, lower extremity injury, sports performance, data collection, and prior management of research projects.

  • Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of testing devices’ hardware and software.
  • Collect high-quality test data using a variety of lab and/or industrial systems.
  • Ensures that tools and test equipment are properly maintained and calibrated.
  • Support deployment and implementation of new test devices and methods with clubs and leagues, including training, troubleshooting, and maintaining service documentation.
  • Support development of technical documentation related to field testing procedures, guidelines, and best practices.
